Tinting & Lifting: Intro

Should I tint my lashes?

What’s the difference between tinting and mascara?

But, first and foremost, what is an eyelash tint?

Tinting is applying a darker tint to the lashes to create a natural colour. As a quick and simple procedure, many of my ladies think tinting is an attractive option for a variety of reasons.

Tinting is an enhancement that many people do as an alternative to mascara. It’s often used for more definition around the eyes, especially for blonder hairs. As an elective procedure, it can be convenient and has aesthetic benefits. It really opens up the eyes.

It is absolutely fantastic for holidays. Going to places with a beach, spending time in the water or out in hot weather, not needing to use mascara is a big deal. The same can be said for those participating in sports. Tinting also gets into the root of the lash which can be difficult to do with mascara for the same effect.

There are some differences to mascara that you should know. Tinting will not build the lashes, but does do colour and definition for a very natural look. It can be used as a convenient and effortless as part of routine. If you have a sensitivity to mascara, this might be an alternative. Just be sure you are getting your patch tests for safety.

How does a tinting appointment work?

You can expect a few things from booking a tinting appointment. Although it is a relatively quick and easy procedure, there should always be a patch test that is done prior. It is 100% essential. There should be no risks when it comes to procedures close to the eyes. On the day you arrive for the procedure, I cleanse and prep the eye area. This means closing your eyes, so the bottom and top lashes are together. I use a petroleum jelly to protect the skin on your lids from taking the dye. Then I will paint a tinting solution gently onto the lashes. This is left on for eight minutes, then removed again gently.

The results are instant and last about four weeks. The depth of colour will affect this time as a darker tint will naturally last longer. They are very noticeable results, especially on lighter or fairer lashes. It is best for those who want a more natural and effortless look. The feedback I receive focuses on the benefit of being able to wake up feeling great as my lashes are done. An overwhelming majority of people have been really happy with the results. They love the definition and emphasis on the lashes.

But let’s say you want that little bit extra. I would recommend a lift along with the tint.

Lifting also involves a tint. It’s a curl or lift that lasts six to eight weeks. If you feel like you need a little bit of an oomph, to awaken the features - it is lovely. If you are a fan of eyelash curlers, then a lash lift is perfect because, eyelash curlers can be quite damaging to the lash over long term. If you are using them regularly, they can weaken and break the eyelashes.

So lifting is a much kinder process to get that effect you want. If you’ve got a lift and a tint, then you really don’t need much mascara.

Lifting is again a gentle process but will require a longer appointment. It takes an hour and includes three steps:

1)     The lift breaks the natural bond of the lash – a bit like a perm.

2)     The lashes are fixed onto silicone shield with a lotion that fixes into the new shape.

3)     The tint which follows the same procedure as before.

The results and expectations are similar as those for simply tinting. It enhances and defines the look of the eyes without adding to daily routine. It comes in several depths of colour which will last longer the darker you decide to go.

Before I finish, for both procedures, you should avoid a few things:

1) You should not saturate for 24 hours.

2) This means no spa, shower, sauna, and the like.

3) You have to keep your lashes dry or they will drop.

P.S. Did you catch last week’s blog on waxing? Here’s the summary:

My clients get so much more than hair free legs. They get some therapeutic time. Of course, they are here for a treatment, but it goes beyond that for regular clients. You get to know each other and build trust. Trust is a big word in my job. This is why you should opt for a professional service. For the correct advice to help long term management and get solutions, the advice you receive throughout your experience goes beyond simply the results.
