What is great skin care?
Put simply: Consistency and using good quality products. Having a morning and nightly routine, then weekly masks and exfoliation as suit a person’s skin type. Nine times out of ten, facial clients want better skin. While getting a facial done with me will have a great impact on my client’s skin, it is also important to have a good routine at home. I can tell if someone is using any products or not. Arbonne fits my ethos. I want people to have happy healthy skin. I have used lots of products over the years. Far and away, Arbonne just works well and I love working with the company. Facial treatments are an investment in their skin health and gaining more confidence. So, I can’t let someone walk out of the salon without advising them of the things that will help manage problems and give them longer lasting results.
Why have a skin care routine?
Waking up and feeling like you don’t need to add anything is a really big confidence boost for most women. A lot of people feel they need to cover up imperfections, especially in certain industries and professions like those in customer facing. People can get hang ups about their skin if it’s not good, if it’s not happy, is over-sensitive, prone to redness, is overly dry. We all have different struggles with our skin and the insecurities can lead us to reach for makeup to cover it up. But skin care is, or should be, about remedying these sorts of issues that cause us to want our makeup to rectify. Great skin care is something that will solve these problems.
How do I know which products are good?
Over 30 years in beauty therapy and working in different salons, I have become familiar with a lot of brands. Personally, I have been testing out products for myself as well. You can go round and round finding products that work, they have to obviously suit your budget as well. Beauty products can often price out smaller operations. For instance, some spa opening orders are in the region of £5,000. When you are a small business, you just can’t take on that amount of stock. I have been using these products for 5 ½ years and I am happy. I have found one that works for both myself and my business. I trusted the recommendations from a doctor I had become acquainted with, his partner was someone I reconnected with from school. But it was the products, the product quality, that had me impressed. They are very ethical as a company. Sustainability is a huge factor for them, it’s a B corp., doesn’t test on animals, toxin free, has strict Swiss regulations when it comes to product formulations. Something that I really like is they have a scientific advisory board that looks to continually improve products they produce. So, you know you are always getting the very best from them in terms of ingredients and products.
